Our Step-By-Step Shipping Guide was created to guide you through every step of the process of shipping your car or other vehicle overseas, what is expected of you, and what we are responsible for. Please feel free to contact California Shipping if, at any point, you need clarification or have additional questions.
Applying for your QUICK QUOTE from CALSHIP.COM will give us all of the information we need to give you a close estimate of what it will cost to ship your vehicle or personal items to your preferred destination. Keep in mind that prices can vary slightly based on the initial information you provide to us. Final price is based on actual cargo delivered. Rate quotes are issued within 1 business day after the REQUEST date. The NOTES listed in our email response contain very important and helpful information.
BUY YOUR CAR.
Before purchasing a vehicle you would like to ship overseas, make sure that the owner has a HARD COPY of the Certificate Of Title and that the Bill Of Sale is issued after the purchase is completed. These documents are required by U.S. Customs and Border Patrol. If the owner does not have a hard copy, they can apply for one through the DMV.
DELIVER THE CARGO.
Make arrangements to have the car delivered to our address. If you require assistance with the towing, include the zip code of the vehicle's location when sending us the QUICK QUOTE rate request. You also have the option of an open or enclosed trailer.
Auto Shipping and Loading
To avoid any damages to the vehicles while in transit, we follow a meticulous procedure. The autos are first driven into the container after which the four wheels are blocked and braced with wooden blocks. A steel chain is secured to anchor points/brackets underneath the car at opposite corners. The other end is then hooked to the welded points of the container to pull the vehicle down and keep it immobile. In conformance to U.S. Coast Guard regulations, the batteries are disconnected and fuel level kept to a minimum.
IMPORTANT TIP: It is crucial to the engine's protection that the coolant / anti-freeze is sufficient as changes in atmospheric temperature is inevitable at sea. This needs to be taken care of before the vehicle is delivered to us.
Cargo Inside Vehicles
We do not charge for cargo already loaded inside the vehicle at the time of delivery. However, they will not be insured for loss or damage. We also request that hazardous materials be strictly excluded.
We also accept shipments of automobile parts. Loose cargo are to be clearly labeled on the outermost packaging with the customer's name* and destination. For security purposes, we reserve the right to reject deliveries that are not labeled accordingly.
*Customer is the person/s who made the shipping arrangements with us and is not necessarily the ultimate buyer of the goods.
Submit all required documents listed in the email that is sent to you with the QUICK QUOTE rate request. The only document we need in its original form is the Certificate Of Title.
Certain Port Authorities overseas demand a Bill of Sale as well. A passport or social security number is also required for identification purposes.
Your Invoice will be sent to you by email when the cargo has been packed and shipped, It will include your shipping details (i.e., Departure/Arrival dates, Container Number, Vessel Name, etc.) Our Agents overseas will contact you prior to arrival of cargo for additional details.
